Phonics and Spelling

reception sept 15 024Children in Reception and Key Stage One work on synthetic phonics daily, in line with current government guidelines.

The Jolly Phonics scheme is used in Early Years, alongside the Letters and Sounds programme for best practice.  Children continue working through Letters and Sounds in KS1, with teachers using expertise and a range of resources to deliver quality phonics lessons.  Our results in the Year One Phonics Screen are high.

In KS2, teachers follow the National Curriculum, at the same time ensuring the needs of  children who still require support with phonics are met.

The National Curriculum gives lists of words for each year group in KS2.  These lists and advice for parents can be seen below.
