At Bournebrook, children learn to read in a book rich environment, which fosters a love of literature that we hope will remain with children for the rest of their lives.
A range of high quality resources and reading books, chosen for their individual suitability support the teaching of reading in our school. Books from Oxford Reading Tree, Ginn, Literacy World and Discovery World are all used.
All classrooms have their own book corners, stocked with reading materials to tempt readers of all abilities and interests. Our beautiful library is well – stocked and continually being replenished following a generous bequest. A wonderful place to share a story or sit quietly with a book, our inviting and cosy library is available to all children through library times and a lunchtime slot.
The learning doesn’t stop once our children are fluent readers; Guided Reading is a key part of our English curriculum, enabling children to continue to develop into strong readers with a deep understanding of texts. Children’s love of literature is continually nurtured through our whole school ethos and school-wide initiatives, such as “Extreme Readers” and book challenges.
