Writing

From early mark making in Nursery right through to our oldest children, Bournebrook pupils are encouraged to see themselves as writers.

Endless opportunities are available to children; not only in English lessons, but across the curriculum.  Teachers promote writing skills in topic, maths and in every-day classroom routines such as labelllng classroom displays and writing lists.

Grammar skills and spelling in KS2 are taught in formal timetabled sessions, which enables us to provide the skills children need to become fluent writers.  Good readers become good writers, and children are encouraged to “magpie” ideas from the texts they read.  English lessons allow children to practise skills both in short writing pieces and in lengthier compositions and timely feedback from teachers makes sure children know what they need to know to get better.
