Cherry Class
Welcome to Cherry Class- Reception
In Cherry class, we provide a happy, nurturing, and stimulating environment where every child is supported to develop a lifelong love of learning. Our Christian vision; “Let all that you do be done in love” runs through everything we do. We strive to create a community where kindness, respect, and care for others are at the heart of all our learning and play.
Children in Cherry Class are known as our ‘friends’ and enjoy free flow within the Foundation Unit, learning and playing alongside the nursery children. This approach helps to build strong relationships, independence, and a real sense of belonging within our early years community.
We believe that play is at the heart of early childhood education; it’s how children explore, imagine, and make sense of the world around them. Through purposeful play and carefully planned adult-led activities, we help children to grow in confidence, independence, and curiosity.
We place great value on learning both indoors and outdoors. Our outdoor environment offers exciting opportunities for children to investigate, create, and extend their learning in a natural, hands-on way.
Phonics is taught daily through the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised programme, giving children the essential building blocks to become confident early readers and writers. We also use Drawing Club, a creative and engaging approach that develops children’s language, imagination, and storytelling skills through drawing and play.
Mathematics is taught through practical, meaningful activities that encourage children to explore numbers, shapes, patterns, and problem-solving in real-life contexts.
Our Reception curriculum is rich, engaging, and designed to meet the needs and interests of every child, helping them to make a confident and joyful start to their school journey.
